Violist Matthew Lipman and pianist Henry Kramer will perform a recital of works by Schumann, Gabriela Lena Frank, Bach, and Brahms to open the 2022/2023 Chamber Season. The performance, at Emmanuel Church in Newport Rhode Island.
Lipman says of the program for the Newport Daily News that he is “particularly thrilled by the pairing of Bach’s Fifth Cello Suite and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Cinco Danzas de Chambi. A Bach suite opens with a Prelude and then contains five consecutive baroque dance movements, and the Lena Frank is a collection of five Peruvian folk dances inspired by the artist Martin Chambi. It’s fascinating to me to hear the contrasts and similarities between dance music across centuries and cultures.” His debut with the American Symphony Orchestra was praised as “exceptional” and a “masterly performance” by the Financial Times.
