Beethoven Lieder wins Edison Classical Music Award

“Ludwig van Beethoven: Lieder · Songs” by Matthias Goerne and Jan Lisiecki have been honoured with the Edison Klassiek, the Netherland’s Grammy equivalent and most prestigious music award. Jury member Peter van der Lint writes:

Matthias Goerne’s vocal cords will turn everything they touch into pure gold. […] It has been a long time since anyone performed these songs so compellingly — we’d have to go back to the times of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau or Fritz Wunderlich.

Jan Lisiecki knows how to apply variation, drive and beauty of sound expertly. He is Goerne’s equal in every respect. This Edison is therefore not only for Goerne, but emphatically, just as much for his fantastic pianist Lisiecki.”
