Der finnische Dirigent Tarmo Peltokoski wurde im Januar 2022 von der Deutschen Kammerphilharmonie Bremen zum „Principal Guest Conductor“ gekürt und ist damit der erste Dirigent, der diese Position in der 42-jährigen Geschichte des Orchesters innehat.
Im Mai 2022 wurde er zum musikalischen und künstlerischen Leiter des Lettischen Nationalen Sinfonieorchesters ernannt. Er tritt sein Amt in der Saison 22/23 an. Daraufhin wurde er zum Principal Guest Conductor des Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest ernannt. Im August 2022, im Alter von 22 Jahren, dirigierte er seinen ersten kompletten Wagner-Ring-Zyklus beim Eurajoki Bel Canto Festival.
In der vergangenen Saison debütierte er mit großem Erfolg beim hr-Sinfonieorchester, beim Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France und bei den Rotterdamer Philharmonikern.
Im Sommer 2022 trat er beim Rheingau Musik Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn und Musikfest Bremen auf.
In der Saison 22/23 wird Tarmo Peltokoski das Hong Kong Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, das RSB Berlin, The Hallé, das Konzerthausorchester Berlin, die Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Göteborgs Symfoniker, San Diego Symphony und das Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse dirigieren. Er wird zum Eurajoki Bel Canto Festival zurückkehren, um Tristan und Isolde zu dirigieren.
Er arbeitet mit Solisten wie Yuja Wang, Asmik Grigorian, Matthias Goerne, Jan Lisiecki, Julia Fischer, Golda Schultz, Martin Fröst und Sol Gabetta zusammen.
Tarmo Peltokoski begann sein Studium im Alter von 14 Jahren bei dem emeritierten Professor Jorma Panula und studierte bei Sakari Oramo an der Sibelius-Akademie. Er erhielt außerdem Unterricht von Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste und Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Als gefeierter Pianist studierte er Klavier an der Sibelius-Akademie bei Antti Hotti. Sein Klavierspiel wurde bei zahlreichen Wettbewerben ausgezeichnet, und er trat als Solist mit allen großen finnischen Orchestern auf.
Im Jahr 2022 erhielt er den Lotto-Preis beim Rheingau Musik Festival.
Darüber hinaus hat Tarmo Peltokoski auch Komposition und Arrangement studiert und hat eine besondere Vorliebe für Musikkomödie und Improvisation.

Tarmo Peltokoski appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The The 22-year old Finnish conductor starts his Rotterdam tenure September 2023 with a four-year term
Tarmo Peltokoski will join the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Guest Conductor for four years starting from concert season 2023-2024. Last May, the 22-year-old Finn made an indelible impression with his Dutch debut, conducting the Rotterdam orchestra in works by Rachmaninov and Sibelius. ‚Nothing short of a miracle,‘ wrote the major Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, ’staggering, breathtaking, tear-jerking beauty.‘ The orchestra’s musicians were also unanimously enthusiastic about Peltokoski and urged his speedy return to Rotterdam. That return is coming this week: on Saturday, September 17, Tarmo Peltokoski will conduct the orchestra during the Late Summer Spirit event. Special guest in that concert is chief conductor Lahav Shani, who will make his appearance as a piano soloist in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

At 22, Tarmo Peltokoski is now Music and Artistic Director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and has been awarded the title of principal guest conductor at The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the first conductor to hold this position in the orchestra’s 42-year history. Tarmo Peltokoski has made brilliant debuts in Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse and in Frankfurt with the hr- Sinfonieorchester. He also appeared at several festivals and last August he completed his first Wagner Ring cycle at the Eurajoki Bel Canto Festival. Peltokoski is from Finland began his studies with professor emeritus Jorma Panula at the age of 14 and studied with Sakari Oramo at the Sibelius Academy. He has also been taught by Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
