Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to tour with Branford Marsalis

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will tour the US with saxophone player Branford Marsalis in a program featuring works by Rossini, Debussy, Ibert, and Courtney Bryan beginning on January 12, 2022. The tour, which includes performances in California, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida, includes the world premiere of Courtney Bryan’s Carmen, Jazz Suite on Themes by Bizet commissioned by Orpheus for the ensemble and Branford Marsalis. The seven city concert tour kicks off the orchestra’s return to touring, an integral and important part of Orpheus’ mission and legacy.

Orpheus’ 2021-22 season features performances with several longstanding collaborators, including saxophonist Branford Marsalis, violinist Vadim Gluzman, and pianists Richard Goode and Nobuyuki Tsujii. Additionally, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and violinist Pekka Kuusisto will make their Orpheus Chamber Orchestra debuts this season. The orchestra will also premiere new works by Hannah Kendall, Aldo López-Gavilán, and Courtney Bryan. Orpheus’ 2021-22 touring schedule includes appearances in Japan, South Korea, and across the United States. The orchestra’s extensive discography includes a June 2021 release on Nonesuch Records with pianist Brad Mehldau, and the monumental 55 CD box set of Orpheus’ complete recordings on Deutsche Grammophon released by the label in August 2021. Orpheus has commissioned and premiered over 50 new works.
