American baritone, Thomas Hampson will bring his project Song of America: Beyond Liberty to UA Present’s Centennial Hall in Tucson Arizona and to Seattle Symphony’s Benaroya Hall in Seattle Washington next week. The two dates are a part of Hampson’s new tour goal to reach all 50 US-States with his new project. He is accompanied by pianist Lara Downes and the Beyond Liberty Players, an ensemble of musicians from around the US. Hampson, in an interview with the Arizona Daily Star says that the project is meant to “celebrate [American] culture through the arts and through the stories and through the poetry and through the music.” In a new libretto, based on one by Royce Vavrek and developed for the Glimmerglass Festival in 2018, has a focus on stories which Hampson goes on to say “if we know our stories and our songs then we know ourselves better as Americans and that’s the only thing behind it all.”
